Events Programme 2013 Inspiring Beautiful Gardens

 We are delighted to announce our events programme for 2013 to inspire everyone from the novice gardener to the green-fingered enthusiast. We invite you to meet some of our top gardening experts who will share their knowledge and experience with you in an entertaining and informative way.

 ‘Pancake Day’ @Timmermans – Tuesday 12th February

Celebrate Pancake Day at Belle & Joe’s Kitchen with our lovely selection of homemade pancakes and tasty fillings!

 Garden Re-Leaf Day – Friday 8th March
To welcome the start of the gardening year, we are teaming up with garden centres all over the UK to support Garden Re-Leaf Day.  In the hope of engaging with gardeners young, old, experienced or enthusiastic beginners, we would like to raise as much money as possible for ‘Greenfingers’, the garden industry charity that creates magical gardens for children’s hospices.

John Stirland from BBC Radio Nottingham & the ever-popular Stuart Dixon will be joining us for the National Garden Re-Leaf Gardening Quiz devised by Alan Titchmarsh followed by Gardeners Question Time 11.00am-12.30pm – £5 per ticket inc refreshments (all proceeds to Greenfingers) – this may be a popular event so pre-booking advisable

Celebrated garden writer Ian Cooke will be at our ‘Advisory Desk’ from 2.00-3.00pm, so don’t forget to bring along samples for identification of plants, pests and diseases – Donations to Greenfingers

Traditional Afternoon ‘Chari-TEA’ special in Belle & Joe’s Kitchen – Tea, scones, selection of cakes & delicate finger sandwiches for 2 people £9.99 (£2 goes direct to Greenfingers)

‘Mother’s Day’ @Timmermans – Sunday 10th March

Bring your Mum along for a special Sunday lunch to Belle & Joe’s Kitchen this Mother’s Day and we’ll give her a beautiful pot plant to say thank you!

 ‘Spring Hanging Basket & Planters Workshop’ with Steven & Paul – Wednesday 13th March at 11am

Our resident experts Steven and Paul will lead you through a practical workshop, which offers a hands-on approach to creating your own colourful seasonal planter or hanging basket this Spring.  You will be able to take your finished creation home with you, which usually retails at around £19.99 so by making your own you’ll be saving money too!

£10 per ticket includes all plants & materials – Pre-booking recommended

 ‘Easter Time’ @Timmermans

 Bring your little bunnies along to our egg-citing treasure hunt!  While you take some time to browse our range of products, they can find all six hidden objects located around the garden centre to receive a special prize. Then why not finish in Belle & Joe’s Kitchen & enjoy a few seasonal treats, while they enter our Easter colouring competition? As part of our Easter celebrations there will be offers throughout the store. FREE EVENT

 ‘The Wildlife Garden’ with Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust – Saturday 30th March 10am-4pm
Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust is the county’s leading conservation charity run by local people for the benefit of local wildlife.  They will be offering talks and advice for attracting wildlife into your garden. FREE EVENT

 ‘Best Borders’ with Stuart Dixon – Tuesday 23rd April at 11am
The renowned and highly-regarded Stuart Dixon will be presenting his inspiring talk on Perennials for herbaceous borders to offer plenty of ideas to create your own stunning border, followed by an opportunity for you to ask your top questions. FREE EVENT pre-booking recommended

 ‘Growing Better Veg’ with David Thornton – Saturday 4th May at 11am
Award winning David Thornton is Secretary of the National Vegetable Society and veg-growing champion, having exhibited all over the UK.  He will be sharing a wealth of experience and knowledge on successful veg growing, followed by a Q&A session. This is a great opportunity for anyone new to veg-growing to get a better understanding of what is involved & how to get started or for the more experienced veg-grower to improve their expertise.  FREE EVENT pre-booking recommended

 ‘Jungle June’ @Timmermans

As part of our ‘Jungle June’ there will be offers throughout the store, and we will be continuing our theme in Belle & Joe’s Kitchen.  Why not go bananas over our tasty banana bread, try a tropical pizza or treat yourself to a tropical smoothie?

 ‘From Tropics to the Trent’ with Ian Cooke – Saturday 1st June at 11am
The celebrated writer Ian Cooke will be presenting an alternative garden experience, inspired by his latest book. The talk covers hardy exotics, tender summer additions, bananas and other fascinating options, followed by an opportunity for you to ask Ian your top questions. FREE EVENT pre-booking recommended

‘The Summer Garden – what’s hot & what’s not’ with John Stirland – Sunday 23rd June at 11am

Award-winning local radio & TV gardening expert John Stirland will offer his advice and expertise to help you create your perfect summer garden as well as giving his own personal take on the highlights of Chelsea Flower Show. He will be providing a practical demonstration to show you the ideal plants to make the most of your garden this summer, with an opportunity for you to ask any questions.

 ‘Rose Weekend’ with Brian Schofield – Saturday 12th & Sunday 13th October
RNRS judge, exhibitor & champion Brian Schofield will be talking about his vast experience & knowledge on rose planting and growing at 11am on the Saturday, followed by an opportunity for you to ask questions. Our resident experts Steven and Paul will be on hand to show you our range of roses and offer advice.
