Come & Join Us on March 13th for national Garden Re-Leaf Day!

More than 500 UK garden centres and scores of leading gardening suppliers, journalists and supporters will be holding special events designed to inspire Britain's gardeners on Tuesday 13th March 2012. The events are part of Garden Re-Leaf Day, an industry-wide initiative aimed at engaging with gardeners young and old, experienced and beginners whilst raising money for Greenfingers, the garden industry charity that creates magical gardens for children's hospices. We are busy planning our events for Garden Re-Leaf to get the 2012 gardening calendar off to a flying start. It's particularly momentous for us as we are reopening the main garden centre building after rebuilding over the winter.

Events planned for the day include a 'Pot-On-Athon' of continuous planting throughout the day. If you have some tired looking houseplants that need repotting or some favourite patio pot in need of some seasonal colour, why not bring it in on the day and we'll get it planted up. Perhaps you'd like to pick out a pot and some plants to have potted up as a gift for Mother's Day or just for yourself? Children are very welcome to come and plant up a basket for to take home for mum. We are also taking part in The Great Seed Sowing Challenge, which aims to get as many people sowing seed as possible on a single day. We are giving away over 1000 packets of seeds to schools across Nottinghamshire who wish to take part as well as offering free seeds for children to sow at the garden centre on the day. If your school wants to take part, get a teacher to email (from the school's email address) sophie@timmermansgardencentre.com. Seeds will be available for collection from the weekend before Garden Re-Leaf for schools which have contacted us in advance.

We are also inviting our customers to join with other garden centres around the country to take part in what is hoped will be the world's biggest quiz - a celebrity gardening quiz arranged by Garden Re-Leaf featuring gardening questions set and recorded on CD by some of our best known gardeners, including Alan Titchmarsh, Christine Walkden and Peter Seabrook. 'Coffee, Cake & Quiz' starts at 11am and cost £5 p/p which includes coffee/tea and a slice of cake. Teams are very welcome so why not mention it to your local group or society and get a team together. There will be prizes for the winner or winning team.

Finally at 3pm, we are having 'Chari-Tea at 3'; a traditional afternoon tea in the new restaurant, of finger sandwiches, cream scone, cake and a choice of teas. Tickets cost £8 p/p with all proceeds going to Greenfingers.

Gardening broadcaster Alan Titchmarsh is among those who have pledged their support for Garden Re-Leaf Day. Speaking at the 2011 Garden Media Guild Awards in London in November, he urged other gardening journalists to add their own support: 'You've heard of Comic Relief and Sports Relief... next spring, the garden industry is launching its own version, Garden Re-Leaf. On Tuesday 13th March, gardeners young and old will be celebrating the start of the garden year with fun, fundraising events to raise money for Greenfingers, our garden industry charity. Already, hundreds of companies have pledged to take part. Garden Re-Leaf day could become the biggest event in the gardening calendar."

About Us

Situated in the idyllic countryside of Nottinghamshire, Timmermans Garden Centre was established in 1989 right next to the very rose fields that help put the Timmermans name on the lips of any discerning gardener. The Timmermans family hail from Holland and have been successful rose growers since 1884. Arriving in this country in the 1950s, the late Joseph Timmermans settled in the village of Woodborough and set about building a successful company by growing top quality roses. In 1988 Mrs Timmermans had the idea to build a Garden Centre on the adjacent field and the rest, as they say, is history.
